Dave Grohl said Paul McCartney gave his daughter her first piano lesson

Dave Grohl and Paul McCartney have a special relationship. As a child, Grohl listened to the Beatles’ records over and over again. After rising to fame with Nirvana and Foo Fighters, Grohl finally met his idol. They clicked instantly and became good friends. At Grohl, things had come full circle.
However, Grohl knew he and Paul were good friends when Paul gave Grohl’s five-year-old daughter Harper her first piano lesson over pizza and wine at Grohl’s. Everything else the pair did to honor each other on and off stage didn’t matter. That little piano lesson meant the world.
Dave Grohl met Paul McCartney at Concert for George
Grohl met George Harrison’s son, Dhani, in 2002. Little did he know it was the former Beatle’s son. When Grohl found out, Dhani invited him to join Concert for Georgethe tribute concert for his father, which featured the likes of Eric Clapton, Tom Petty and the rest of the Beatles.
Grohl wrote in his blog, Dave’s True Storiesthat he was seeing Paul for the first time After the performance. He’d grown up worshiping Paul and the Beatles, so it was a surreal moment. Grohl said it was Experiencing a supernatural event.
“I caught Paul McCartney out of the corner of my eye chatting to friends and I couldn’t help but stare at him. There. He. was.
Grohl continued, “I don’t know how it feels to see a UFO. I don’t know how it feels to see a ghost. I don’t know what it feels like to see Bigfoot, but I know what it feels like to see Paul McCartney, and if that isn’t a supernatural event then I don’t know what is.”
Then Grohl tried to look away, but “it didn’t help. I was fascinated.”
Someone told Grohl that Paul wanted to meet him, and he almost choked. “My heart rate doubled, the lights seemed to dim in a bizarre twilight tunnel fashion,” he continued. How Grohl and Paul got to know each other remains a mystery to the frontman.
“I remember doing my best ‘This isn’t the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me’ while trying not to make a fool of myself,” he wrote.
“I was beside myself, had an out of body experience and lived a moment that will surely be revisited in my final hours. Like so many who have lived as musicians, his music was a teacher when I needed lessons. A friend when I was feeling alone. A father when I needed love. A therapist when I needed guidance and a partner when I needed to belong.”

Grohl said Paul gave his daughter her first piano lesson
After meeting, Grohl and Paul became good friends. They hung out with their families, and at one point Paul gave Grohl’s daughter Harper (Grohl also has Daughters Violet and Ophelia) her first piano lesson.
Grohl explained on an episode of how the Beatle came to give his daughter such a precious gift The Graham Norton Show.
“Years ago I became friends with Paul McCartney and his wife and my wife switched numbers. Every time he came to Los Angeles, his wife would text my wife and say, ‘Hey, we’re going to dinner, would you like to come to dinner?'” Grohl explained.
“And of course my wife knows who Paul McCartney is, but I don’t know if she means the same thing to me. He’s a Beatle, you know, that’s how I learned to make music. So we just had Ophelia, our youngest, and Paul and Nancy were in town. They said, ‘Okay, let’s see the new baby.’ She was a week old.
“So they come to our house and of course my kids know who the Beatles are because when they were young I brainwashed them with all the Beatles music. We have wine, pizza and we hang out and it was time for Paul to go.
“Paul and Nancy were about to leave and there’s a piano in the corner of the room and he just can’t help himself. So he sits down at the piano and starts playing Lady Madonna. In my damn house! I’m speechless; I can’t believe this is happening. This is like the craziest moment of my entire life.
“My daughter Harper, who was, I think, five years old at the time, watches Paul McCartney play the piano, and she goes into the kitchen, she gets a coffee cup, she puts some change in it and puts it on the piano like it’s on tip jar. I thought she was a grohl. I like it.”
Paul then taught Harper a thing or two about the instrument. “At that point, she had never taken lessons to play an instrument and she sat and watched his hands. They sat together and he showed her what to play.”
That’s not all Harper and Paul did together at the piano.

TIED TOGETHER: Foo Fighters: Taylor Hawkins was intimidated into being the drummer for Dave Grohl, the ‘greatest drummer of the ’90s’
Paul wrote a song with Harper
The former Beatle Not only did Harper give her first piano lesson; He wrote a song with her.
“They wrote a song together,” Grohl continued. “While they were doing it was the only time I ever took a picture of Paul because I don’t think I really want to do that. I just wanna be his friend somehow, you know? But I saw my daughter get her first piano lesson from Paul McCartney and I made a video.”
The next morning, Grohl heard Harper perform the song she and Paul had written the night before.
Grohl continued, “I came around the corner and she looked at me as she played the piano. She noticed that I was watching and she never played the piano again [Laughs].
“And then she says, ‘I want to be a drummer.’ I say, ‘Are you crazy?!’”
Maybe Harper would have become a piano player if her father hadn’t embarrassed her. After all, she is following in her father’s footsteps.
