Dave Grohl, Greg Kurstin Cover Lisa Loeb for Hanukkah Series – Billboard

Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl and producer Greg Kurstin restarted their “Hanukkah Sessions” project on Sunday night (November 28) – the first night of the Festival of Lights – with crispy black metal. Lisa Loeb1994’s soft ballad “Stay (I Missed You).” After going through eight covers of songs by Jewish artists last year, including songs by Beastie Boys, Drake, Mountain, Peaches, Bob Dylan, Elastica, The Knack and Velvet Underground, the demonic duo This is back with a new track on Loeb’s signature song for the first entry in this year’s edition.

“Welcome back to the menorah, friends. Let’s start this year’s Hanukkah sessions with one of Dallas, Texas’ favorite Jewish daughters,” Grohl wrote alongside the couple’s low-budget video for the song. “So put on your coffee shop glasses and your Betsey Johnson dress and HAVA listens to this…”

The clip opens with Grohl wearing a vintage mid-1990s floral dress and chunky glasses as he cuts the song’s soothing openings. It’s just a Rickroll-style prosthetic, though, as the camera zooms in on Dave’s agitated, quivering face into the chorus of his best black metal screams to create a The tonal change is completely unexpected, interesting. Loeb appreciated the effort, writing that Grohl and Kurstin did a “wonderful job,” while also shouting out the singer’s smart choice of a classic Betsey Johnson dress.
