Danny DeVito recalls being “naked as a halibut” on Always Sunny

Danny DeVito recently gave fans a play-by-play recording of his nude scene in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live with host Nikki Glaser, DeVito spoke about having no limits while promoting his new series, Little Demon. During the interview, Glaser asked him if It’s Always Sunny had “broken” his boundaries.

“I just love it. You know, I love doing that,” DeVito said. “You say, ‘Get off the couch naked,’ I’m there.”

DeVito referenced the sitcom episode in which he hid on a couch to hear if his former co-workers would say anything about him. At the end, his character, Frank, emerges naked from the couch.

“Okay, I’ll do that,” DeVito recalled as he thought after reading the script for the first time.

“Then you get there and you go on set … it’s a party too, so there’s like 50 people you don’t know. You don’t think about it, you know what I mean,” he recalled.

DeVito revealed he wasn’t fully nude when the scene was filmed.

“You can’t perform in front of 50 people you don’t know with your wanger hanging around,” he explained. “So they put a little cap on it.”

He went on to explain that he was oiled up by the makeup team to make it look like he was sweating profusely.

“So now you’re like back there awaiting your cue and you’re going to slide naked like a halibut out of this thing,” DeVito continued.

The whole situation was as funny as you can imagine, as even co-star Kaitlin Olson once forgot her lines while trying to film the scene.

“Somewhere on YouTube there’s this great thing where Kaitlin forgets to say her sentence. It’s like she’s looking straight at me,” he said during the interview.

“Like a big blob of fatty meat,” he added.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the longest-running live-action sitcom in history. The TV show premiered in 2005. Alongside DeVito, the sitcom stars Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton and Kaitlin Olson.

Season 15 of the show premiered on December 1, 2021. The series is said to have at least 18 seasons as of now.
