Daniel Craig has admitted that he had planned James Bond’s death almost since he was created as a character.
The actor shocked Bond fans no time to die when the world’s most famous spy was dramatically killed at the end of the film – a first in the long-running franchise.
Speak with The times, Craig recalled a conversation with Bond’s mega-producer Barbara Brocolli as he left the 2006 premiere Casino royale.
“I really thought I was going to do a Bond film, then it would be over,” he said.
“But by then we knew we had a goal on our hands. I realized how outrageous this is, so I said to Barbara, ‘How many more? Three? Four?’ She said: ‘Four!’ i said ok Can I kill him then?’ She said yes.'”
15 years and four films later, Craig had his wish granted. “If we kill Bond, we can start over,” Craig explained.
“I think Barbara thought so too. But thank God, the studio, MGM, said, ‘What are you talking about? Are you out of your mind?’ There was reluctance. So we really had to do it in secret.”
in the no time to die, Bond is blown up on an island after being infected with nanobots that would kill his loved ones. The end was dreamed of fleasack Creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who asked Craig to put “magic dust” on the script.
“A true tragedy is when you have absolutely no choice,” the actor said. “We had to find a way to give his death no choice. It was the happiest thing Bond had ever experienced because he found exactly what he was looking for. Like everyone on earth, he was just looking for love.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Craig seemed to hint at this knife out The homosexuality of the character Benoit Blanc reflected experiences in his own life.
“You should reflect life. And the [gay] Relationship reflects my life,” he was quoted as saying. However, The times‘ Article has now been updated to read: ‘Thou shalt reflect life. And the [gay] Relationship reflects the people in my life.”
Craig’s reps declined to comment.
