As Ghislaine MaxwellA criminal trial is underway, a prosecutor argues that the British social site and the late financier Jeffrey Epstein are ‘dangerous predators who have exploited and sexually abused young girls for a decade’. Maxwell knew ‘exactly what she was doing’, a prosecutor argued, while the defense team claimed she became a scapegoat.

Assistant US Attorney Lara Pomerantz detailed the ‘horrific abuse’ that 14-year-old girls suffered at the opening of arguments in Manhattan Federal Court on Monday. Prosecutors painted a picture of Maxwell, 59, luring young women into a room ‘where she knew (Epstein) would harass them’.

‘There were times when she was in the room when it happened – making it all feel normal and causal,’ Pomerantz said, according to nation.

‘She preyed on vulnerable young girls, manipulated them and served them to be sexually abused. The defendant trafficked children for prostitution. That’s what this trial is all about. ‘

Maxwell allegedly encouraged girls to engage in sexual activities by calling what they were doing a massage, but what was happening was not a massage. It’s sexual abuse,’ Pomerantz said.

‘The defendant helped Epstein find these girls. She helped him recruit girls for his so-called massages. She manipulated the girls and groomed them for abuse,’ she said.

Prosecutors called the way that Maxwell allegedly helped Epstein find these young girls a ‘pyramid scheme’ where they would invite teenagers to bring young friends to Epstein’s house in exchange for cash.

Maxwell is also accused of creating a ‘culture of silence’ to keep the ‘horrific crimes’ she and Epstein committed behind closed doors, the prosecutor said.
