‘Danger!’ The Players’ Final Stumble: Who is Gene Kelly?

Twitter didn’t feel glorious at three “Jeopardy!” Contestants who don’t seem to know dance legend Gene Kelly.

Gamers Cris Pannullo, Rob Lamanna and Jeri Zulli failed to recognize the late “Singin’ in the Rain” star on Thursday’s episode of the quiz show.

In the Olivia Newton-John category, contestants were asked to identify the man pictured next to the late Grease star. Instead, the Brainiacs fell silent.

Newton-John, who died of cancer earlier this year, and Kelly appeared in the ’80s musical Xanadu. The film was a hit at the box office – and left no lasting impression on the participants.

This news angered a certain audience on Twitter, meaning Gene Kelly was only leading trending topics for one night.

“Sorry: on Jeopardy!” Tonight none of the contestants knew who Gene Kelly was when they were shown a photo. I guess I’m getting old”, one sighed.

“Sometimes I’m just perplexed… on #Danger How could all three contestants NOT know Gene Kelly tonight, the answer to the Olivia Newton-John category? Maybe I’m just old or something,” another echoed.

“Jeopardy’s contestants didn’t know who Gene Kelly was. I’m amazed! Haven’t you seen Singing in the Rain????” Another asked.

“Oh my god. To hell with you all for not filling in for Gene Kelly. #Danger‘, an angry user smoked.

Kelly died on February 2, 1996 at the age of 83 after suffering a stroke. Captain America star Chris Evans is rumored to be portraying him in a movie announced earlier this year.

Meanwhile, with the new front of Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings, the show has weathered several eyebrow-raising blunders in recent months. In June, a contestant misidentified Public Enemy as Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.

A month later, another contestant was roasted for not knowing the lyrics to Taylor Swift’s “You Need To Calm Down.”

And on November’s Celebrity Jeopardy, viewers called a reference to the late killer Brian Laundrie “distasteful” and “insensitive.”
