Danger of severe weather for several days this week, very hot and muggy tomorrow

RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) – Strong to severe storms are possible any day after the July 4 bank holiday weekend.

Today, areas north and west of Raleigh face a Level 1 severe weather hazard. Isolated storms could generate dangerous winds this afternoon, although most areas will remain dry.

Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, between 2:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., are the best chance for everyone in central North Carolina to see storms that could create damaging winds. The Storm Prediction Center rated everyone under a “slight risk,” which is a severe risk of Level 2.

Wednesday will be the hottest day with highs in the upper 90’s and heat index readings in the triple digits.

A few scattered showers and storms will continue into Saturday, before Sunday becoming significantly cooler. The highs will then be in the low 80s!
