Dakota Johnson Says ‘Fifty Shades of Gray’ Set Is ‘Psychotic’

Dakota Johnson opened up about her “psychotic” experience during filming fifty shades of gray movies.

The actor played the protagonist Anastasia Steele in the three films in the franchise, which were adapted from the EL James novels of the same name.

Jamie Dornan co-starred as Christian Gray after Charlie Hunnam dropped out before the first film due to scheduling conflicts.

According to Johnson, Hunnam’s departure from the franchise was an early turning point that changed the way the films came to life.

In a new interview with vanity fairthe conviction star says writer-screenwriter James was “so angry” that Hunnam left that she scrapped the original script.

“It just got crazy,” Johnson explained. “There were a lot of different disagreements.”

She continued, “I’ve never been able to speak truthfully about it because you want to promote a film the right way and I’m proud of what we ended up doing and it’s all going the way it is it’s supposed to, but it was tricky.”

The actor gave examples of “fights” that went on with James, including including “incredibly cheesy” lines that Johnson felt wouldn’t work for the film.

“She had a lot of creative control all day, every day, and she just wanted certain things to happen,” she said of working with the writer on the screenplay.

When later asked if she regretted her involvement in the film, Johnson denied the suggestion but shared that had she known of the upcoming drama, she would not have agreed to act in the film.

“No. I don’t think it’s a question of regret,” she clarified, before continuing, “If I had known at the time what it was going to be like, I don’t think anyone would have done it.

“It would have been like, ‘Oh, that’s psychotic.’ But no, I don’t regret it.”

The Independent has reached out to an EL James representative for comment.
