Cyclist killed in NYC after being towed by semi-truck
A cyclist was killed on Thanksgiving in Queens when a hit-and-run tractor driver hit her several feet, pinning her and dragging her for several feet, authorities said.
The bicyclist was pedaling east on Liberty Avenue at about 11:30 a.m. when a 2014 Kenworth T8 Series tractor with a Heil Tanker trailer made a left onto Van Wyck Expressway Service Road, police officers said.
The unidentified woman, 43, was thrown from her bicycle and pinned to the undercarriage of the tractor-trailer, police said.
She was dragged several meters as the tractor continued south on the side road, police officers said.
The motorist, identified by police as a 48-year-old man, drove away after the collision, leaving the cyclist on the ground.
The woman, who was not identified until the family was notified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No arrests were made and the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the incident.
