Cyclist killed in crash at Fort Myers . Beach

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. – A cyclist was stabbed and killed on Estero Avenue near Dakota Avenue in Fort Myers Beach early Friday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at about 1 a.m

Deputies said a bicycle and an SUV were involved in the crash. An SUV was discovered by NBC2 at the crash site with a damaged windshield. The car was then towed.

Officials said the driver of the SUV was arrested.

Witnesses said another driver tried to drive past the crime scene and was stopped by FHP.

The 5300 block of Estero Avenue was closed overnight while soldiers investigated the accident. One lane has been reopened.
