Cuomo wrecks the Justice Department raid on Mar-a-Lago a year after his fall

Disgraced former Gov. Andrew Cuomo joined Republicans on Tuesday to question why the FBI raided the Florida home of his longtime nemesis Donald Trump.

“The DOJ must immediately explain the reason for its raid and it must be more than a search of irrelevant archives, or it will be viewed as a political tactic and undermine any future credible investigation and legitimacy of the January 6 investigation.” Cuomo tweeted Tuesday morning on the crackdown overseen by the Justice Department under President Joe Biden, with whom the ex-governor is on friendly terms.

The deposed Democrat’s criticism of Biden’s Justice Department unleashed a tsunami of criticism against Cuomo on the eve of the one-year anniversary of his stepping down as New York governor amid multiple sexual harassment and COVID-19 scandals.

“Andrew Cuomo is wrong. DOJ doesn’t have to explain anything. They never announced they would search Mar-a-Lago. Trump did it. He’s the one who politicized it by (a) stealing documents, (b) refusing to return the documents, and (c) pretending to be the victim after breaking the law.” Progressive expert Keith Boykin was charged.

“Didn’t expect to see Andrew Cuomo running with the @GOP message on Trump’s FBI issues. Stealing containers of classified documents is not “inconsequential” — the law considers it a national security risk.” added Max Burnsan adviser to leftist Rep. Yuh-Line Niou, who is running in a crowded Democratic congressional primary.

“It’s embarrassing,” said Joe Walsh, a former Republican congressman from Illinois. tweeted on Tuesday.

The backlash against the former Democratic leader followed a social media storm that engulfed former New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Yang, who tweeted Tuesday that the federal crackdown made it easier for Trump to claim he was the goal of “unjust persecution”.

“Maybe I’m speaking for other Never Trump guys who were never supporters of Andrew Cuomo and don’t support Andrew Yang: both are embarrassing.” Longtime conservative commentator Bill Kristol tweeted.

“Must be a ‘washed up politician named Andrew'” quipped Shawna Morlocka Democratic district leader in Queens, the home district of Cuomo and Trump.

Cuomo caused additional uproar after explaining his position on Tuesday.

“The DOJ must disclose the bona fide nature of the August 8 action, or Republicans will use it to discredit the January 6 investigation, which is a terrible disservice to the good job of the House Committee in exposing violations of the Trump administration would be.” Cuomo said in a second tweet.

The Post barely silenced its critics.

“Doesn’t really help… what a strange strategy of his.” Michael Murphy, a spokesman for the Senate Democrats, tweeted from his personal account.

Cuomo announced his resignation on Aug. 10, 2021, a week after Attorney General Letitia James released a bombshell report detailing allegations of sexual misconduct by multiple women, which Cuomo has denied.

On August 23, he officially resigned.

Cuomo, who currently lives in Westchester with his sister, has appeared intermittently in recent months to speak out on public issues, including controversial US Supreme Court rulings on abortion and gun rights, while leaving his political future open-ended.

“He calls it how he sees it. There’s no politics involved,” Cuomo spokesman Richard Azzopardi told The Post about the motives behind Cuomo’s provocative comments on the Mar-a-Lago raid.
