It happened at the Chase bank on the 2900 block of Woodridge Drive and Village Way around 9:43 p.m
According to authorities, a man was driving past an ATM when another man approached and shot him with a gun.
Police said the customer got out of the car and shot at the robber.
At about the same time as the shooting, a pickup truck not involved in the robbery was traveling east on Winkler toward Woodridge when one of the bullets hit the rear window.
Officials say a family of four – a mother, father and two children in the back, including a 9-year-old boy – were in the truck.
A bullet hit a 9-year-old boy.
She was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she is in a critical condition.
Authorities say they have no description of the robber and do not believe he was hit by a bullet.
No one was detained.
HPD director Matt Slinkard said police still don’t know what charges the man who fired the shots will face and they are investigating whether the robber fired back.
The same Chase bank location was the site of a deadly shooting in October.

Police have since released surveillance images of the gunman, but on a final check, failed to make an arrest in the case.
This is the second time in a week a 9-year-old child has been shot.
On February 8, Ashanti Grant was shot in an apparent road rage while going to the grocery store with her family. Her uncle said she was in the back seat of the family car watching cartoons when she was shot.
Police have not found her shooter, but now there is a $30,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
