Crash on I-40 closes westbound lanes and backs up traffic, soldiers say

DURHAM, NC (WNCN) — The North Carolina State Highway Patrol says it has closed westbound lanes of I-40 following an accident near Durham Sunday afternoon.

According to NCSHP Force C, the crash happened around 1:10 p.m. near exit 15-501.

They expect delays until at least 4 p.m

As of 1:30 p.m., traffic appears to be backed up for about a mile.

Durham Police say it happened westbound on I-40 between Old Chapel Hill Rd. and Farrington Rd. Motorists are asked to avoid this area and use an alternative route.

There is no information on what caused the crash.
