TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) – On Wednesday, the school district said the Baltimore County Board of Education had OK $1,000 maintenance and hiring bonuses for all Baltimore County Public Schools employees.
Assuming the one-time payments receive the state’s blessing, they will be distributed in January.
In a statement, BCPS Superintendent Darryl Williams said the award is part of the district’s efforts to show its appreciation for the work and “commitment to Baltimore County.”
All district employees – including full-time, part-time, temporary, contract and replacement employees – will be eligible for the bonus. The only exception would be Director Williams.
The prize money, estimated to total $21 million, will be covered by the Elementary and Secondary Emergency Relief Fund. But the state must sign the cost.
BCPS previously announced the plan spend about $5.2 million on incentives and bonuses for school bus drivers and other semi-professional staff to deal with the driver shortage.
