Convicted North Carolina rapist charged with same-block rape

A convicted rapist recently released from prison is said to have returned to the streets where he committed his crime and sexually assaulted a woman, authorities said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested Robert Lamar McFadden on two counts of first-degree rape and two counts of first-degree sex offenses, authorities said.

McFadden, 28, is accused of entering the victim’s Charlotte home through a window and sexually assaulting her on Thursday morning, Charlotte-Mecklenburg The police announced this in a series of tweets.

McFadden assaulted the 63-year-old and then forced her to drive him to another location, WCNC Charlotte police said. He is also charged with kidnapping and burglary.

He was allegedly linked to a previous burglary in the neighborhood on the same day the rape took place, police said.

McFadden had been convicted of a rape that took place on the same block more than a decade earlier, WBTV reported. He was released from prison in April, according to the Charlotte Observer, citing prison records.

McFadden, then 18, was found guilty in August 2011 of second-degree rape, among other charges, the Mecklenburg County Attorney’s Office said in a press release.

In 2010, McFadden, then 16, broke into the home of an 83-year-old woman and raped her, prosecutors said.

A judge sentenced him to the maximum legal sentence — 9.5 to 12 years in prison.
