Convicted killer returns to prison after accidental release

A convicted Washington state murderer voluntarily turned himself in to police after being falsely released from prison last week with 21 years in prison.

According to KOMO-TV, a Pierce County court requested that Jeremey Bennett be retried in the 2013 murder of Lawrence Hows due to his young age during last Friday’s crime.

The Department of Corrections misinterpreted Bennett’s resentencing order last week and released him, county officials told the outlet.

The DOC reportedly claimed they had made no mistake as his original sentence was marked as “released” in the order.

Amid the confusion, Bennett told his prison guards it was wrong to release him and later turned himself in to police, according to the article.

Bennett was reportedly 17 when he committed the fatal parking garage robbery. Tried as an adult, he pleaded guilty in 2015 and received a 28-year sentence. Convicted killer returns to prison after accidental release
