Controlled burns in Hendry County go awry

HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. – A controlled fire in Hendry County has gone out of bounds, causing many roads to be blocked.

According to the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office, closed areas along Helms Road include State Roads 29 and 80.

Roads have since reopened and officials advised motorists to proceed with caution.

Several fire departments were on the scene with the Forestry Department putting out the fire.

The fire was estimated to be more than 25 acres.

No further details have been released at this time.
