Connecticut teen rescued dead in pond after swimming with friends

A teenager died Saturday while swimming in Connecticut while trying to escape a searing heatwave in the area, officials said.

The 16-year-old boy was pulled from Uncas Pond in Lyme after authorities responded to a report of a missing swimmer around 4:30pm, officials told The New Haven Register.

According to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the unidentified teenager swam in the pond with friends but sank and never resurfaced.

Diving teams from local authorities and the Connecticut State Police and DEEP Environmental Conservation Police worked to recover the boy.

He was taken to shore and revived before being transported to Shoreline Clinic in Westbrook, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
