Ian Darke says it’s “crazy” by Everton owner Farhad Moshiri if they appoint former Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa as their next manager.
The football commentator added that someone like Bielsa doesn’t fit Everton at the moment because he would have to come mid-season and that to a struggling side.
It’s something the world-renowned coach hasn’t done during his career, plus he’s previously made it clear that he always needs a pre-season to get his players up to the standards he wants – and they’re really, really high .
There are claims that Everton owner Moshiri not only wants to bring in Bielsa but is the number one target to replace the recently sacked Frank Lampard.
The 67-year-old last had a job less than 12 months ago when he was in the Leeds United duke before being sacked as they continued to concede goal after goal and slide down the table.
Well, now he could return to England’s top flight and football commentator Ian Darke has expressed concern at what he’s hearing about Everton’s next manager, as he told ESPN.
“Not Bielsa, not at this point in time, that would be crazy I think,” Darke said. “His style of working with the team is playing at 100mph.
“It would be like asking a string quartet to suddenly go through the Rolling Stones routine. I don’t think they can do that with this mid-season roster of players.
“Perhaps the answer is to go with a caretaker by the end of the season. someone experienced. Maybe like Sean Dyche.”
BIELSA WOULD BE A RISK
It’s about the style of play with Bielsa and whether the current players, who have been instrumental in putting Everton on the relegation zone, can handle what he brings to the table.
On the one hand, the draconian nature he will bring to the club is needed because the players need a kick in the butt.
But one thing is for sure, it’s a far cry from what Sean Dyche would bring to the table if he were ever appointed.
