Coachella 2022 Day 3 talking points: From Dave’s pal ‘Spike from London’ to Doja Cat’s rock ‘n’ roll triumph

Coachella returned to Indio, California this weekend for its 2022 edition, two years after the Covid-19 pandemic ended live entertainment events around the world.
The first of two consecutive Coachella weekends concluded on Sunday (April 17) with performances from Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Arcade Fire, Danny Elfman, Maneskin and The Weeknd.
Here’s a recap of the main talking points on Day 3 of the free-spirited Technicolor festival before tents rebuild on April 22nd:
Doja Cat proves she’s both a rock ‘n’ roll sensation and a TikTok triumph
Doja Cat brings rock ‘n’ roll to Coachella with their iconic main stage set, featuring a guest appearance from Rico Nasty and some serious guitar solos. After seeing such a triumphant show, we decided that the last thing the Grammy winner needs to do is retire from the music industry.
The sounds of DJ Solomun
We almost thought there was a secret Foals show at the Outdoor Theater when we heard the disembodied voice of Yannis Philippakis levitating 2013’s single “Last Night” across the grounds. As it turns out, it was just Bosnian-German DJ Solomun who threw some indie bangers into his set of deep, throbbing house music.
Dave introduces “Spike from London” after “Alex from Glasto”.
Anyone remember Alex from Glasto – the teenager who supplied AJ Tracey’s bars when Dave dragged him onto the stage at Glastonbury in 2019 to perform her 2016 single ‘Thiago Silva’? Well, it doesn’t matter if you don’t because there’s a new Alex in town from Glasto Say hello to Spike from London, whom Dave has chosen from the crowd to join him during his sizzling Mojave stage set.
“Oh my god talk to the people bro,” Dave gasped after backpack-carrying Spike delivered Tracey’s lines (almost) without a mistake.
Orville Peck’s country music love song
Orville Peck proved during his set that mainstream country music can be so much more than tired clichés and hackneyed chants. Read our review here.
Finneas returns for a solo show
Full marks for the presence of Finneas, who had double duty just hours after helping his little sister Billie Eilish during her history-making headlining set on the main stage. Finneas belted out his own anthemic pop ballads at the Outdoor Theater and wore a smart gray suit that made him look a bit like an off-duty real estate agent or a funky vicar.

Viagra Boys fans were lost [their] Music’
More Fat White Family than Fat White Family, psychedelic Swedish punks Viagra Boys ended their set in the dark, dungeon-like Sonoran tent with a dingy sax, extreme t-shirt abandonment, and what appeared to be a mezcal-fueled version of The sounded Fall’s interpretation of the disco anthem “Lost In Music”.
Chic pit stops for festival-goers to refuel
Coachella isn’t just about bands, DJs and denim hot pants. Some of the best cuisines in the world also graced the festival, including a pop-up of the legendary Outstanding in the Field. The global phenomenon, with hundreds of hungry diners gathered around the longest table this side of the Last Supper, is a farm-to-table experience where renowned chefs use local produce to create incredible family-style meals with endless wine. Located in the hidden VIP Rose Garden area of the festival, despite the steep price tag of $275, all seats are full.
Megan Thee Stallion dances to the tunes of The Weeknd
Megan Thee Stallion was spotted dancing in the crowd at The Weeknd x Swedish House Mafia show. We love to see it. Read our review of The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia double sets here.
