CNN boss Chris Licht criticizes left-wing “vitriol” aimed at him

CNN boss Chris Licht has slammed the Liberals for criticizing his move to make CNN less partisan, saying it only makes him more confident about his decisions.

“The uninformed vitriol, especially from the left, was overwhelming,” Licht, who took over the cable network in May, told the New York Times. “Which confirms my point: so much of what passes as news is attribution, half-truths and desperation.”

Licht has been tasked with returning CNN to its hard news roots, curbing anti-Trump, left-leaning scholarship and cutting costs.

He told the Times he considers people in the political center “normal” – but insists that addressing “normal” people doesn’t mean the content should be boring.

“One of the biggest misconceptions about my vision is that I want to be vanilla, that I want to be centrist. These are cops—” Licht told the Financial Times in November. “You have to convince. You must have an advantage.”

He told the Times he wanted the network to be a place for “rational conversations about divisive issues.”

Licht said his dream is that after watching CNN, viewers “take what they hear to the dinner table and have a discussion.”

He also revealed that Warner Bros. Discovery President and CEO David Zaslav took several weeks to persuade him to take the job, which he now sees as a calling.

Though in office for less than a year, Licht’s tenure has been fraught with drama and layoffs. He cut hundreds of jobs as the network’s profit tank earlier this month.

He started the job a day after the network’s streaming service CNN+ shut down, less than a month after it started.
