Club legend Gianluigi Buffon said that the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo made Juventus lose the DNA of a team.
JUVENTUS legend Gianluigi Buffon has claimed Cristiano Ronaldo MISSED the club’s chance to win the Champions League.
Ronaldo, 36, joined Juventus in 2018 a year after they reached the Champions League final.
And Buffon, who was at Paris Saint-Germain when Ronaldo arrived in Turin, says the club had changed by the time he returned in 2019.
Juventus failed in the Champions League with Ronaldo on the team and Buffon believes it was because the club lost its ‘DNA’ with CR7.
Buffon told TUDN.com: “Juventus had the chance to win the Champions League the first year he arrived, that was the year I was at Paris Saint-Germain, and I couldn’t understand what happened.
“When I came back, I worked with CR7 for two years and we did very well together, but I think Juventus have lost that DNA of a team.
“We reached the Champions League final in 2017 because we are an experienced team, but above all we are a single unit and there is this competition for places in the group that is very strong. We lost that with Ronaldo.”
Perhaps it is no coincidence that Ronaldo left the club immediately after the return of coach Massimiliano Allegri.
The Italian is said to have told Juventus director Andrea Agnelli that Juventus should get rid of Ronaldo.
Allegri is said to have said: “Get rid of Ronaldo, he is preventing the development of the team and the club.”
But since the Portuguese left Juventus, Juventus have struggled and are currently 5th in Serie A, 12 points behind leaders Inter Milan.
And Ronaldo proved himself at Untied with 13 goals in 18 games, though criticism from some parts of the media.
