Cloud Nine toys in Sudbury to close after 40 years – CBS Boston

SUDBURY (CBS) – For 40 years, Charles and Laura Brauer have run Cloud Nine Toys.

Laura said: “We went to the toy store for 40 years almost every day of our lives.

“This place is like home. I just love coming here. I look forward to who walks in the door and what the experience will be like,” said Charles.

This holiday season will be their last at the Sudbury toy store, as they retire after decades of bringing joy to the community.

“I’ve had kids come in, and they’re all grown up now. And they bring their kids in and they tell me they shopped here,” said Charles.

“Well, you look around it’s one of the last private toy stores around and what a pity,” Weston customer Elizabeth Hastings said.

Hudson customer Christine Hannan said: “I shop online a lot around the holidays, but there’s no substitute for going and touching the toys.

Brauer’s sayings over the years will have lines devoted to certain items, such as Beanie Babies. But they tell us that things are different now, as children are attracted to technology and video games.

“People will go crazy for all sorts of fashions. And now a lot of kids have iPads and iPhones and video games so they’re not ‘I have to have something’ like all the kids used to be,” Laura said.

As they have done for years, Brauer will continue to sell products that encourage family time, chat, and embarking on learning until they close for good. They don’t have an exact closing date yet but say it will be sometime after the holiday toy shopping.

“Toys always make people smile and have fun. Laura said.
