Chris Paul’s mother Robin was “a little upset” recalling her encounter with a fan during the Suns game in Dallas on Sunday, Inside the NBA co-host and family friend Kenny Smith. The fan allegedly molested and physically contacted her during the Mavericks’ 111-101 win.
Tuesday night on TNT, Smith shared what Robin Paul had told him.
“She said, ‘No, Kenny. The guy was drunk and trying to be funny by constantly tapping me and saying Happy Mother’s Day. And she said, ‘Thanks, but please don’t touch me,'” Smith said of the conversation he had with her. He also said Paul’s mother was “implacable” about her memory of the scene.
“[The fan] continued to do so, and in between yelled obscenities at the suns. ‘F the suns, F the suns.’ And keep tapping them. Then it escalated to this magnitude because I think that’s when Jada, Chris’ wife, went upstairs to try to tell security and the bar to stop serving him because he was drunk. So it escalated more and more and he kept swearing.”
The fan in question was removed by security during the game, as seen in videos that went viral on social media.
On Monday, the Mavericks said in a statement that “two unruly fans” were banned from the American Airlines Center until 2023 after they attempted to “undesirably” hug members of Paul’s family in the arena.
In a previous statement, the Mavericks said the fans’ behavior was “unacceptable behavior and will not be tolerated.”
Paul became furious on the sidelines when he found out a fan had allegedly molested and physically come into contact with his family during the game, which took place on Mother’s Day.
After losing game 4 Paul tweeted“I want to penalize players for saying stuff to fans but fans can touch our families…fk that!!”
