Chicagoan Joseph Guardia has been charged after he allegedly set a homeless man on fire

A Chicago man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly setting a homeless man on fire on Wednesday.

The 75-year-old homeless man was sleeping near Trump Tower early Wednesday morning when Joseph Guardia, 27, allegedly doused him with a flammable liquid and set him on fire, according to FOX 32 Chicago.

Guardia was charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated arson with assault.

Homeless man Joseph Kromelis is known as “The Walking Man” and has been walking the streets of Chicago for years, according to the report.

After the incident, Kromelis was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition with 65% of his body burned.

Ali Simmons, who works with the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless Law Project, told FOX 32 that the streets of Chicago are not safe.

“It’s not safe for people living out here on the streets. There’s violence out here. We have to make sure everyone has a safe place to go,” Simmons said. “It’s a time out to pass the buck and do nothing about an issue that we know is very serious and is killing people.”
