We just watched a bunch of very interesting games during NFL’s Super Wild Card Week. There’s been plenty of drama across the country as each team tries to qualify for the Group Stage next weekend.
The Green Bay Packers and Tennessee Titans each had their goodbyes after winning the top seeds in the NFC and AFC respectfully. They were once legitimate Super Bowl contenders as they are now getting ready for their first playoff opponent.
Each game has its own storyline that makes this a very enjoyable weekend. There’s drama everywhere, which is what makes the NFL so special. Whoever wins the Super Bowl will be proud because the tournament is packed with great teams and players.
In the AFC round, the fun and entertaining Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Las Vegas Raiders in a controversial match. There was some debate over the rules and requirements for some plays but Joe Burrow’s team prevailed.
The other two games in the conference were all losers. The Buffalo Bills completely destroyed the New England Patriots and the Kansas City chiefs stopped the Pittsburgh Steelers. Each of those games kind of went exactly as expected so not much of a surprise.
Both the Patriots and Steelers have had incredible runs over the past 20 years but the Bills and Chiefs are the best of them all. Now, those two will go head to head next week and the Bengals will play the Titans.
Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers completely hooked the Philadelphia Eagles. The defending champions dropped out in the second round as Brady clearly demonstrated that it was mostly him in New England. The Bucs are 7-9 in 2019-20 and miraculously haven’t lost a playoff since Tom’s arrival.
What could go wrong would be with the Dallas Cowboys. They lost badly to the San Francisco 49ers but they almost came back. Several poor decisions and lousy penalties allowed San Francisco to be suspended.
We had a knockout game on Monday Night Football for the first time. It was a battle between the Los Angeles Rams and the Arizona Cardinals. Unfortunately, it was a predictable matchup as the Rams beat the Cardinals 34-11.
Next week, the Green Bay Packers will host the San Francisco 49ers while the Los Angeles Rams head down to Tampa Bay to take on Tom Brady’s Buccaneers. It will be fun to see how things turn out.
The Chicago Bears aren’t nearly as good as any of these teams right now.
The Chicago Bears no chance to play on Super Wild Card on weekends in 2022-23. They currently do not have a coach or general manager but those roles will be filled in short order. When that new duo came along, a lot of work needed to be done.
Chicago has an established foundation (they hope) with Justin Fields. He has all the raw physical talent he needs to develop into an NFL quarterback. Until that happens, and it won’t overnight, the Bears don’t have a shot.
When you follow the teams that have made things happen post-season, it’s clear that the Bears are far behind them all. They hope that they have a better quarterback than some of them, which is a good start but they have a long way to go before being a playoff team again. It’s possible to see them turn things around quickly, but don’t count on it. It would be fun but it doesn’t seem realistic.
