According to Blues boss Thomas Tuchel, KENEDY’s career hasn’t died out in the country.
West Londoners were forced to apologize to China supporters after the Brazilian winger’s social media posts in 2017 caused ‘major outrage’ and hurt the feelings of the Chinese people’.
Kennedy, 25, was sent home from a pre-season tour after he posted Portuguese words that translate to “F*** China” on Snapchat.
“This is life sometimes, and he has a second and a third chance to be here.
“And this is what it’s about, it’s not about the past, it’s about what will happen now.”
It means Kennedy is likely to start its fourth-round home game at lunch on Saturday – his first Chelsea game in 1,480 days.
Kepa Arrizabalaga is expected to play in goal as Edouard Mendy is still in the Africa Cup of Nations
But centre-back Thiago Silva could be sidelined after missing training.
The Blues fly to Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
But Tuchel believes James – who has been out since December with a hamstring injury – needs more time to build confidence.
He said: “For Reece, I’m also a coach to not get over-stimulated by the pure dates that might be out there.
“The injury is a big one and I felt it immediately… we have to be patient.
“He had the flu last week and it took days for him to return to the team.
“He works hard and has the best in his hand.”
