Charlene White is one of the stars starting this year I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!
The popular ITV reality series returned to the Australian outback this year after a two-year stint in Wales due to the pandemic.
White is no stranger to ITV, having become one of the network’s most recognizable faces thanks to her role as a regular panelist on the daytime show Permissive women.
The 42-year-old from Greenwich began work as a journalist and TV presenter for BBC looking east. She also worked at Radio 5 Live and BBCLondon in the early years of her career.
Her time at ITV began in 2008 ITV News at 5.30am and ITV News London.
White made history in April 2014 when she became the first black female news anchor to present ITV News at ten.
Your guest just right Permissive women in the summer of 2020 was so loved by viewers that only five months later she was awarded a permanent position on the jury. White replaced Andrea McLean after McLean’s departure from the program.
Viewers may also recognize White from her stint on Channel 4 in 2021 celebrity glasses boxin which she appeared alongside fellow actress Judi Love to discuss television’s wildest antics this week.
White presented the documentary Charlene White: Empire’s Child, which examined the influence of the British Empire on the Caribbean diaspora. In it she traced her family history from Totnes, Devon, to Clarendon, Jamaica.
She also co-presented an investigative special with Trinidadian-British journalist Trevor McDonald on the impact of the killing of George Floyd in the UK.
Last year, White caused controversy over her decision not to wear a poppy on screen. However, she carries a poppy off-screen.

The presenter explained her reasons for not wanting to wear the symbolic pin on TV: “I support and am a patron of a number of charities and due to impartiality rules I am not allowed to support them all visually while hosting news programmes.
“This includes things like a red ribbon for World AIDS Day or a purple ribbon for Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Both these and many other charities are doing great things in the UK, but I’m not allowed to show them on screen. So I feel uncomfortable supporting just one charity above all others, which is the Royal British Legion, but I wholeheartedly support my colleagues who choose to wear the poppy on screen.”
to talk about her decision i am a celebrity, White said: “There aren’t that many options as you get older and it will be nice to see if I can do that. I gave birth to two children in quick succession, that survived and lived to tell the story! So I think now is the right time to take on another big challenge.”
She also predicted that she would take on the role of “mom and cook.”
Since appearing on the show, White has made headlines for her comments on Matt Hancock about his decision to leave his Suffolk constituents and join the series and her experience of losing a loved one in the pandemic.
