Celtic are reportedly sweating over the ‘wonderful’ star’s fitness following an injury on international duty

Celtic are now sweating over Liel Abada’s fitness as coach Brendan Rodgers awaits news on the injury the winger just sustained on international duty with Israel.

That’s according to the Daily record, which reports that Abada will undergo scans to assess the severity of his injury. The 21-year-old is facing a break after suffering a muscle injury during the September break. He stopped during practice to report the problem.

Abada felt a muscle soreness and will miss Israel’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against Romania and Belarus. Alon Hazan’s selected team need a result to lift Romania from second place. After four games they are third in Group I with seven points, with Switzerland at the top with ten points.

Hazan expects to be without Abada against Romania and, given his injury, probably also against Belarus. Scans will determine the full extent of his problem but Rodgers will have to wait anxiously for news. Celtic’s Champions League campaign begins on September 19th away to Feyenoord.

Rodgers will be reluctant to be without Abada for Celtic’s visit to Feyenoord should the Israeli striker miss out due to injury. The Bhoys also host Dundee FC in Glasgow on September 16 and the ten-cap Dynamo have been key to their success so far. He has taken part in all five of the Hoops’ Premiership games.

Rodgers has quickly developed a fondness for Abada and will therefore hate to see the Celtic star suffer a serious injury.
