Celine Dion was forced to reschedule and cancel dates for her European tour after she was diagnosed with a terminal neurological condition.
On Thursday (December 8), the “My Heart Will Go On” singer posted a teary-eyed video to her Instagram page, explaining that she has been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, from which she says it affects “every aspect of my daily life.”
“As you know, I’ve always been an open book and wasn’t ready to say anything before, but now I’m ready,” Dion began, addressing the camera directly.
“I’ve struggled with health issues for a long time and it’s been really difficult for me to face those challenges and talk about everything I’ve been through.”
The 54-year-old explained that she was “recently” diagnosed with “a very rare neurological disorder called stiff person syndrome, which affects approximately one in a million people.”
She continued, “While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know that this was what caused all of the cramps I had.”
Dion explained that the condition affects her ability to perform, sing and engage in normal activities.
“Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulty in walking and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing in the way I’m used to,” she said, adding that it “hurt her “. announce that their tour will not resume in February.
The singer has canceled eight of her summer shows scheduled for 2023 and rescheduled her spring 2023 shows to 2024.

However, Dion assured fans that she has a “great medical team” who are working hard to help her get better, but admitted it’s been a “struggle”.
“All I know is singing. It’s what I’ve done my whole life and it’s what I love doing the most,” she said.
“I miss you so much. I always give 100 percent when I do my shows, but my condition doesn’t allow me to give that to you right now.”
The singer explained that her primary focus is on her health in order to be able to perform again and thanked her fans for their well wishes.
“I love you guys so much and I really hope to see you again soon.”
Earlier this year Celine was forced to cancel North American tour dates and dates of her Las Vegas residency due to health issues. It turns out that these cancellations were also related to the illness.
