CBS and CBS Sports Network have some strong matches on the schedule. Georgia came out on top and went undefeated against fourth-placed Alabama in the SEC Championship. Western Kentucky, on a seven-game winning streak, faces the formerly ranked University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in the USA Conference Championship. SEC Championship:

#1 Georgia @ #4 Alabama, Saturday, December 4, 4:00 p.m. ET on CBS

The Georgia defense conceded only 4 teams. That said, they haven’t faced many elite charges. Tennessee scored 17 points a few weeks ago. What does this Georgia defense do that makes it so difficult for enemy offenses?

They have an unbelievable front, where they can play that front seven, without having to play too much. And when you can rush to four and then cover with seven, that gives you a big advantage. But now that Kirby mixes in the pressure zone with these hits, it could keep a midfield quartet too unbalanced. And they have the speed to go home. And when you can dash the way Georgia can hurl a passerby, it can be disruptive. They are very good at mixing things up. But the biggest thing is Jordan Davis and that front. They don’t need much help. And when you don’t need much help, it just gives the extras more cushion and helps block passes and explosive plays. But Kirby loves to carry it, he likes to bring five, six, even a seventh guy. He will keep them off balance. They did very well. Very few teams can score. So I can’t wait to see this game.

How should the Alabama offensive team, led by Bryce Young, attack this Georgia defence? Have their recent struggles against Auburn raised concerns?

It’s one of those movies Kirby will be very hard-working to watch. I think Auburn did an unbelievable job playing defense against Alabama. Derek Mason had a great plan. And so, with that said, you can bet Alabama will be very, very focused.

One of the most important is Jameson Williams. Jameson needs to stay on the pitch. You have to have outside speed, because they can take away your best levels. One of the best things to do against the Georgia team, when you’re running too fast, is to get them moving early. I mean it’s the reverse of the first 10 turns, warm-up and swing, trigger point move. Georgia is so good that, if you’re vanilla, especially early on, you’ll fall behind in numbers. So it’s very, very important that you start and stay in numbers. And I mean four yards, four yards, three yards. You can’t rank second and 12, third and 12 with these guys, because they just smell like blood. They were very good.

So I’ll be combining it soon, sifting, drawing, warm-up and waggles, vice versa soon. The screen is misdirected, buying space early and really trying to get the defense to work. That’s your best chance against this horde. One thing that people don’t know is the secondary of Georgia. Why? Because the front was so good, and very few teams were able to hit the ball consistently, because they went home in a hurry. It is important for the midfielder to have a time clock and be able to put things together, especially very early on.

Georgia have not played a single close game since their Week 1 win over Clemson. Alabama has been tested by Florida, Texas A&M and Auburn. This looks like the SEC Championship match was destined to happen. You see how it goes?

Georgia’s defense is too good. The point is that I still believe that Bryce Young is also very good, with his wide receiver. If they can get the ball and move things – try to get them off balance and do a side check early. If you can get somewhere on the field and get past that 50 a couple of times, it’s going to be a completely different ball game.

One thing about Georgia is that they’ve got you covered. They won the field position. They block a hit, and suddenly it’s downhill and you’re looking up out of the well. You’re having a hard time being on the field.

I think it will be close to half. But Georgia’s defense is too elite and too fast. They give you too many problems. I don’t know how Alabama, right now, in four quarters, can stay on that field and score. No one. But it’s hard to figure out Bryce Young. I trust Bryce Young a lot, but he has to have that chunk of time in his head. I would lean towards Georgia.

Conference USA Championships:

Western Kentucky @ UTSA, Friday, December 3, 7:00 p.m. on CBS Sports Network

Western Kentucky Hilltoppers-University of Texas San Antonio Roadrunners

UTSA’s loss last week ruined their undefeated season and dropped them out of the top 25. How do they recover against Western Kentucky in the Conference USA Championship?

What happens is, when you lose your first game after being unbeaten all year, you have a different focus. So Western Kentucky is catching UTSA at the wrong time. They will be very focused on the laser. They grieve that loss. They haven’t been through it all year. So at this point, if you’re UTSA, you might think this could really help us. If you’re Western Kentucky, you have to keep doing what you’re doing. Zappe was great. These guys are fun to watch. They know how to get the ball up and down the pitch. You can bet that UTSA will come with laser focus, and they will gladly take that drug, that one dose. And that’s a win.

Western Kentucky started the season 1-4, with its most recent loss coming to UTSA. What has led to their current seven-game winning streak, and can they pull off eight straight wins against UTSA?

When you look at Western Kentucky, it’s like a completely different team. If you look at the first three or four games, they played not clean, missed missions, lost points. But, suddenly you look at these last four, five, six games, Zappe was so precise. The game is clean. He brought them out of the wrong play, into the right play. Quick release. Everything looks good, and Western Kentucky is also playing well defensively. So when you get that together, you start to trust. As you continue to get better at the end of the year, trust builds. Confidence and they cleaned everything up. And Zappe was excellent.
