After months of speculation, authorities have announced the cause of death of TikTok star Cooper Noriega, who was found dead in a Los Angeles parking lot on June 9, 2022.
According to the Los Angeles County coroner, the 19-year-old died from “combined effects of alprazolam, fentanyl and lorazepam,” which authorities are recognizing as an accidental overdose of the drug. An investigation found evidence of “recent clonazepam use.”
Just hours before his death, Noriega had posted a video of himself in bed with the caption, “Who else thinks they’re going to die!” The young star had also shared with his Instagram followers on June 4 that due to his Lifelong struggle with substance abuse is starting a Mental Health Discord page.
“I’ve struggled with addiction since I was 9 years old. You may think this is crazy but this is the life I got,” he wrote in the emotional post. “I want to use the influence I’ve received to create a space built on spreading awareness and normalizing speaking about mental illness.”
At the time of his death, the social media sensation had 1.7 million TikTok followers and 95.7 million likes, as well as more than 427,000 followers on Instagram. He was best known for posting lip-sync videos and short sketches.
Noriega’s friends and family took to social media to mourn the untimely passing of their son. “Today was an incredibly difficult time for my family and I,” his father Harold Noriega wrote. “We lost our beautiful 19 year old Cooper last night. He was loved by so many and truly was the love of Trevas, Parkers and my life.”
Meanwhile, his recent ex-girlfriend Sabrina Quesada posted a series of Instagram photos showing her and the late TikToker.
“The light of my life you are the best thing that has ever happened to me,” she wrote in the caption. “I’m so sorry, my love. may we meet again.”
