Caught on camera: Raleigh family say someone stole 34ft camper

RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) — A Raleigh family says someone drove away with their vacation home and everything was caught on camera.

Surveillance video from Saturday afternoon shows a white pickup truck with ladder racks on it driving away with the 34-foot RV in tow.

Kalan Browne says the motorhome belongs to her and her husband and they are happy to travel with their 5-year-old daughter.

“We spent a lot of time as a family in this camper,” Browne said.

The family said they parked the RV behind a locked fence in an area off Capital Blvd. in Wake County.

“One of our friends, he owns a truck shop nearby, he came into work this morning and realized he wasn’t there,” Browne recalled. “I literally thought it was a joke.”

Then she saw the surveillance video recorded on Saturday afternoon. According to the time stamps in the video, at 3:48 p.m. you can see a white pickup truck with black ladder frames parked in front of the gate where the RV is parked. The truck drives off three minutes later.

“He comes out again and I guess he finds he can’t put that particular hitch on his truck,” speculated Browne.

At 4:16 p.m., the truck returns and only about ten minutes later it leaves again – this time with the mobile home in tow.

“Really, I just don’t understand how anyone could steal, let alone something that massive,” Browne said.

For the Browne family, the motorhome is more than a vehicle, it’s like a home away from home, filled with furniture, bedding and everything they need on a trip like that beach vacation they should be taking in June.

“There’s other sentimental stuff too, you know, pictures and stuff,” Browne added.

The camper is a 2017 Grand Design Reflection. The Browne family is asking anyone who sees it on the street, at a campground, or for sale to call the Wake County Sheriff’s Office at 919-856-6900.
