It’s not a Hallmark film.
If you’re looking for an alternative to the warm and fluffy fare that typically dominates TV movies during the holiday season, look no further.
“Prisoner of Love,” which premiered December 14 on the Tubi streaming service, follows the relationship between Alabama correctional officer Vicky White and convicted murderer Casey White (no relation), who ran away together earlier this year. Her escape from the Lauderdale County jail sparked a statewide manhunt that ended 11 days later in Evansville, Indiana.
After the couple’s car crashed during a police chase, Vicky was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head — she later died in a hospital — while Casey was taken into custody, extradited to Alabama, and charged with Vicky’s murder. The indictment alleged that Casey caused Vicky’s death by facilitating his escape. In October, Casey pleaded not guilty to the felony murder, but the trial was postponed.
Officials said the lovers made a suicide pact, agreeing that should they be cornered by law enforcement and he died in a shootout with police, she would kill herself. But he was taken into custody without incident.
On April 29, Vicky — a five-time Staffer of the Year — drove away from the Lauderdale County jail with Casey hidden in the back seat, and it was later revealed the two had a romance between the bars that kept them separate.
Tubi describes Prisoner of Love as “inspired by a true story. A prison officer falls in love with an inmate and helps him plan his escape while leaving her hometown to question her decisions.”
