When police arrived at the scene, she was missing, but her red Mercedes-Benz, with her cellphone and wig, stayed behind.

The 26-year-old reappeared at her parents’ home two days later claiming she had been kidnapped and held captive, but the story later fell apart.

Simmons, 25, said he didn’t notice any change in her behavior before she voluntarily disappeared.

“I mean, we had a little argument, but it wasn’t a reason to kidnap,” he said, laughing, on the podcast.

Two weeks before the fake kidnapping, the couple took a trip to New York City, where they had a great time, Simmons said.

“We had fun,” he said on the podcast posted to YouTube. “We took trips to the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge.”

“I’m confused, what happened?” he once said on the podcast he co-hosts with a friend. “Why did you do that? I don’t understand.”

Russell later admitted through her attorney that there had been no kidnapping and no roadside baby.

The nursing student was charged with one count of falsely reporting to law enforcement and one count of falsely reporting an incident.

After the truth emerged, Simmons said he was shocked that Russell staged the whole ordeal and insisted she could have told him the truth before officials revealed it.

“I was crazy,” he said, noting that he’s still trying to come to terms with it and heal. “I was sad. I was in all sorts of emotions.”

He previously said he was disgusted and taken aback by Russell’s actions.

Russell has not attempted to contact her ex since the two split, Simmons said on the podcast.

“We weren’t in contact with each other,” he said, also denying during the podcast that he was looking for influence and vowing it would be the last time he spoke about the unusual incident.
