Career crook arrested in moped snap outside of precinct is finally arrested

A career criminal who allegedly tried to steal a moped from outside a police station last week will finally remain in jail after failing to post bail for a string of other raps on Sunday.
Jon Matos was released under guard on Saturday for the moped crime but he was arrested immediately afterwards because he was wanted for a string of other thefts.
His lawyer again asked for a supervised release because of the further theft attempts. But Manhattan Judge Biju Koshy noted that Matos had a history of skipping court and repeating offenses when posting $10,000 cash bail or $60,000 bail.
Matos failed to post those amounts and remained behind bars.
“The defendant was always released under supervision,” a prosecutor said Sunday in Manhattan Criminal Court, pleading for bail. “Apparently that is not enough to ensure that the accused can obey the law.”
Matos was found guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl in 1999.
He has also compiled dozens of arrests for burglary, robbery, fare evasion and rape.
