CHELSEA owner Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned by the government.
The Russian has frozen his assets in the UK. This means that the racket is currently NOT available for sale.
And this news has also brought with it some BIG developments in terms of the club’s revenue stream from ticket and shirt sales.
Abramovich is among seven of Putin’s cronies being sanctioned today for continuing to tweak Russia’s ruthless war against Ukraine.
By far the most notorious oligarch, Abramovich has a net worth of £9.4 billion and owns a multi-million dollar Kensington mansion.
He bought Chelsea in 2003 but has not attended a game at Stamford Bridge for some time.
His former business partner Oleg Deripaska – a £2billion energy tycoon – has also been sanctioned.
Can I buy Chelsea tickets?
Chelsea have been banned from selling matchday tickets.
Currently only existing ticket holders can join matches, the club shop will be closed and all transfer activities have been suspended.
Season ticket holders are also unaffected as they have already purchased the tickets for the games.
Chelsea have been granted “Significant Cultural Property” status, meaning they will still be allowed to play the games – but there will be some big gaps in the 41,837 Stamford Bridge capacity.
Chelsea has 28,000 season ticket holders for Stamford Bridge.
Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries said Blues fans would be “obviously” concerned but reassured them their games and tickets were safe.
She said: “Football clubs are cultural assets and the foundation of our communities. We are committed to protecting them.”
