The next three games in Call of Duty The franchise will release for both PlayStation and Xbox consoles, which means PS5 won’t miss out CoD game in the near future, it has been reported. However, after those three subsequent games, it remains unclear whether Activision Blizzard will continue to release the series’ games on PlayStation. With Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard likely to close in the next 18 months, there’s a chance the tech conglomerate could change the multibillion-dollar franchise into an Xbox exclusive at a later date.
When Call of Duty no longer released on PS5?
Specifically, Microsoft has stated that it will honor Activision Blizzard’s existing dealings with PlayStation “for at least the next two years”. According to four people in conversation with BloombergActivision signed an agreement with Sony to release a number of Call of Duty title for PlayStation. This means that upcoming titles, such as an unannounced sequel to Modern War Will still release for Playstation. The report reveals that Treyarch is also currently developing a new title.
However, the future is uncertain. While Xbox head Phil Spencer announced that it will respect its existing contracts to Sony, he hasn’t said what will happen after those deals close. While some experts argue that the variable Call of Duty into an Xbox exclusive would be illegal, nothing stops Microsoft from seeing the end of its contracts and simply not renewing them. It also doesn’t change the fact that Activision still refuses recognition of labor rights of QA testers at Battlefield Raven Software studio.
