Burned fetus discovered at Phoenix’s largest homeless camp

A dead and burned fetus was found at Phoenix’s largest homeless camp over the weekend, police said.
Police made the shocking discovery while responding to a call with a child who may have been injured around 1am on Saturday, police said.
The fetus was found west of downtown Arizona in the area where the camp is located, police said.
The fetus had an estimated gestational age of 20 to 24 weeks, according to authorities.
A resident who lived near the disturbing scene called the discovery “absolutely horrifying.
“They thought it was a doll at first, but it wasn’t,” Joel Coplin told KPNX-TV.
He said his neighbor told him that he and his fiancé were trying to put out a fire in the street after he saw someone setting something on fire.
“[He told me] His fiancee came and tried to put out the fire and then he stamped on it to put it out and found there was a baby inside,” Coplin said.

“He saw the head, a perfectly formed head and small arms, hands, legs, chest.
“He grabbed his fiancee and turned away so she wouldn’t see, and he freaked out. He called 911.”
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s office will determine the cause of death.
