Actor Nicholas Brendon, best known for his starring role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is on the mend after receiving emergency medical attention for a recent “heart attack.”
The 51-year-old was recently hospitalized after suffering from tachycardia – a condition that causes the heart to beat abnormally fast.
Brendon, who played Xander Harris on the cult ’90s series, was spotted confined to a wheelchair in a series of Instagram photos shared by his sister.
“Nicky is fine now, but had to be taken to the emergency room about two weeks ago for a heart attack (tachycardia/arrhythmia),” the statement said. “Nicky is sending his love and wanted me to apologize for not going live that much lately and give everyone an update.”
The update explained that he has previously suffered from a similar condition and is seeking treatment.
“Some of you may recall that he had a similar incident after his second spinal surgery last year (for Cauda Equina), but this time he’s trying to get some more rest and has focused on medical appointments,” the statement said .
Brendon has had some health issues over the past year that have forced him to withdraw from all promotional content for his film Wanton Want after suffering from “paralysis in his genitals” and legs in September 2021.
The “Criminal Minds” actor is said to have cauda equina syndrome, a condition in which the nerve roots in the lumbar spine are compressed, disrupting movement, sensation and often function of the genitals, bladder and bowel.
In August 2021, Brendon was arrested for using a fake ID while attempting to purchase prescription drugs. He was charged with prescription fraud with a controlled substance and refusing to provide identification when he was pulled over by a police officer during the Indiana incident.
According to his supervisor, having to sleep in a prison cell after his arrest aggravated his existing spinal problems. He was said to be “devastated” over his condition.
