Buffalo gunman Payton Gendron pleads guilty to the grocery store massacre

The white teenager who gunned down 10 people in a hate-fueled massacre at a Buffalo convenience store in a predominantly black neighborhood pleaded guilty Monday to murder and hate-motivated terrorism charges.
19-year-old Payton Gendron filed the plea in Erie County Court – just two miles from where he massacred his victims on May 14, as part of a mad scheme to eliminate as many black people as possible.
His plea on the series of state charges guarantees that he will spend the rest of his life in prison. He still faces federal charges.
Genrdon broadcast the attack on Tops Friendly Market from a helmet-mounted camera while roaming the aisles in tactical gear, firing at store employees and shoppers with an AR-15 rifle.
His gun was marked with racing poison, including the phrase “Here’s your redemption,” authorities said.
In the run-up to the attack, the teenager had posted a manifesto online outlining his rambling white racist views and revealed he had been planning the attack for several months.
He also left a chilling message for his parents, admitting he carried out the attack because he had “the future of the white race” at heart, federal prosecutors said in their criminal complaint.
Gendron was taken into custody after the massacre in the store’s parking lot after he walked through the front entrance.
He initially pleaded guilty to state charges, including murder, murder as a hate crime and hate-motivated domestic terrorism.
In July, Gendron pleaded not guilty to separate federal hate crime and firearms allegations, which, if convicted, could require his execution. The Justice Department has not yet revealed whether it would seek the death penalty.
