Bruce Willis: Latest tributes after family say actor is ‘retiring’ from acting due to diagnosis of aphasia

Tributes have begun after Bruce Willis’ family announced the actor was “retiring” from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia.

On Wednesday (March 30) the Die Hard The star’s family shared a statement on Instagram, explaining that Willis “had some health issues” that “affected his cognitive abilities.”

“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, we wanted to share as a family that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia which is affecting his cognitive abilities,” they wrote.

“As a result, and with much deliberation, Bruce is stepping down from the career that has meant so much to him.”

Aphasia is a form of brain damage that affects both language expression and understanding of a person. It leaves sufferers unable to communicate effectively and is often the result of a stroke.

Immediately after the news, celebrities began sharing their own well wishes and gratitude for the actor’s work.

Austin Powers Actor Seth Green wrote: “I love Bruce Willis so much and am grateful for every character he has given us. Hugs and love to all the family – thank you for sharing it with all of us.”

Comic creator Rob Liefeld tweeted: “Bless you Bruce Willis! Prayers for healing and sincere gratitude for sharing your talents with all of us!”

Willis, 67, rose to fame for his roles in television comedy dramas in the mid-1980s undeclared workalongside Cybill Shepherd, in which the couple played private detectives.

His last released film, The Heist Movie A day to diewas released on March 4th. As yet to be published Paradise City, white elephant and Die like lovers.
