Brooklyn police officer shot dead while trying to handcuff suspect after responding to domestic dispute

A 38-year-old Brooklyn police officer was shot and wounded Wednesday morning while responding to a domestic dispute in Bedford-Stuyvesant, police said.
Seven-year NYPD veteran Orlando Adorino chased the suspect to 181 Monroe Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant just before 9 a.m. and handcuffed him when the man freed his hand, pulled a gun from his waistband, and opened fire Police sources The with mail.
Adorino was shot in the leg and taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities said Mayor Eric Adams, NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell and department head Jeffrey Maddrey visited the hospital later Wednesday morning.
“Let’s be clear, because of the actions of Officer Adorino and his partner, we’ve got a dangerous person off our streets and an illegal weapon off our streets,” Adams said at a news conference.
Sources said the incident happened after police officers arrived at Gates Ave.
A woman at the scene had called the police to complain that her friend was “damaging the wall”.

Four officers responded and met the couple outside, where the suspect – identified by sources as Raheen Joye – was told he was being arrested on criminal mischief charges.
The suspect struggled with officers and allegedly drew a turquoise 9mm pistol, firing a single shot that hit Adorino, according to sources.
The suspect ran away and was chased by police to Monroe Street, where he was taken into custody after being shot twice in the thigh, police said.
He was taken to Brookdale Hospital where his condition is stable.
The shooting remains part of an ongoing police investigation in the 79th Precinct.

Police said Adorino was the 10th NYPD cop to be shot so far this year.
