Bronx mom may have killed sons thinking they were possessed: source

The Bronx mother accused of murdering her two young sons was possessed by demons – and police are investigating whether she killed the children believing they were possessed.
“She made statements about the devil – unusual statements,” a police source told The Post of 22-year-old suspect Dimone Fleming.
Fleming wrote frostily on her Facebook page Saturday before the killings: “There is only one true God and I regret all wrong doings and negative influences.
“Leaving all things that no longer serve me… Thank you for your mercy,” the woman added.
Fleming was arrested but is now under psychiatric evaluation and awaiting charges in the grisly murder of her 3-year-old son DeShawn Fleming and their 11-month-old baby Octavius Canada at the family’s apartment in a city homeless shelter, police sources said .
The boys’ bodies were found under a pile of wet clothes in the bathtub, their necks and torsos brutally slashed.

“[There’s] nothing, nothing in her story that would indicate the horrific violence, a senior NYPD source said Sunday, referring to the mother.
A neighbor said he confronted a mad-looking Flemish outside the Echo Place building on Saturday as she repeated: “What I did?!”
Police officers, then called to the address for trespassing, arrived at 7:20 p.m. and found Fleming naked in the kitchen of her apartment trying to start a fire.
The officers did not notice when they picked up the mother that the two dead siblings were buried under a pile of clothes in the bathtub. Officers had learned from a neighbor that the children’s father had them.

Fleming was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
But police were dispatched back to the shelter around 8 p.m. after a frantic 911 call from the boy’s father, Columbus Canada, 31, who found his children dead in the tub.
Neighbors and acquaintances said the family lived at the shelter for about a year – and said Fleming was seen acting bizarrely and abusing the children.
“She never had patience,” claimed Michelle Rivera, a mother and childcare worker who said she knew the father of the slain siblings.

“You are only [22] years old and not getting along with your kids?” she said of Fleming.
“Everyone on that block offered to help those kids with her, and she never took the help,” Rivera said. “She always wanted to pick an argument.”
She said Fleming would hit the kids and yell, “Here’s your damn bottle!”

A neighbor said the 11-month-old was nicknamed “Baby O” by locals, adding that she knew the kids from nearby Echo Park, where they often played.
“The baby was really quiet,” the woman said. “DeShawn was the life of the park. He was just a happy kid.”
