A Bronx man has been charged with murder in a decades-long murder of a 36-year-old woman who was found suffocated in her home, the NYPD said Monday.
Gregory Fleetwood, 66, was arrested in the strangling of Jasmine Porter, who was found unconscious with neck trauma at her Bronx home on February 5, 1996, police said.
Fleetwood was linked to the murder after DNA evidence found in the early stages of the crime scene investigation was retested in 2021, police and law enforcement sources said.
The alleged killer and Porter did not know each other at the time of the murder, police said.
Fleetwood had a history of violence against women even before Porter’s death.
In 1987, he was arrested and charged with manslaughter for strangling a woman he knew in the Bronx, according to police and sources. He was serving seven years for that attack, police said.
