Brittney Griner cut her dreadlocks because they froze after showering

Brittney Griner, who appeared with her hair cropped close in pictures of her barter for arms dealer Viktor “Merchant of Death” Bout, didn’t need to cut off her signature dreads — she cut them off because they were freezing in the brutal Russian cold.
Griner got rid of her locks, which she shaved off Sundays, to keep her hair from turning into icicles with every shower, the WNBA star’s attorney Maria Blagovolina told ESPN’s TJ Quinn.
“It’s very cold there, and every time she washed her hair, she froze and caught a cold,” the lawyer said, referring to the penal colony.
“She should have waited until the New Year,” the attorney jokingly added.
Blagovolina, who represented Griner at her trial, said the two-time Olympic gold medalist has recently recovered from a bout with the flu.
The lawyer told Quinn that Griner’s stay in IK-2 prison in Mordovia wasn’t that bad.
“She honestly had no complaints. It could have been a lot worse,” she said.

Most of the women in the prison sew uniforms in their work details, but the six-foot-tall Reiffuchs was too tall to sit at the tables and her hands were too big for the job.
So she was tasked with wearing cloth all day and said that’s what she prefers anyway, Blagovolina said.
On Friday morning, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Griner was “in very good spirits” when she landed in San Antonio.
Our team who flew her back and met her on the ground told us she was in very, very good spirits when she got off the plane and appeared to be in good health,” Kirby told Today. -Show.
Griner was released to US officials in a prisoner swap for notorious Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout in the United Arab Emirates.
After a medical evaluation, she will return to her 3,000-square-foot property in Arizona.
