BRITNEY Spears hasn’t released an album in six years, but now that she’s freed from her conservatory, the singer is taking steps toward a comeback.
I’ve learned that her team has started reaching out to several of her former collaborators to work with her on new music.
These include Claude Kelly, who has written huge hit singles for Jason Derulo, Miley Cyrus and Jessie J, and most notably worked with the Toxic singer on her 2008 album Circus, which included hit singles Womanizer, Circus and If U Seek brought forth Amy.
A music insider said: “It’s very early days and Britney isn’t putting any pressure on herself to release an album or anything right away, but her team is putting out feelers about the prospect of new music.
“Several people she enjoys collaborating with have been contacted to ask if they would like to work with Britney on music again, and all seem keen to be involved.
“She’s been through an incredibly tough couple of years, but basically she loves making music and performing, so having new music out there might really help her to start a new leaf.”
There is a great demand among her fans for new music by Britney, who is one of the most successful musicians in pop history with more than 150 million records sold worldwide.
Since signing her record deal 25 years ago, she has racked up six UK #1 singles and eight top ten albums here.
Britney released four albums while tied to her conservatory, but in 2019 she began refusing to work on new music to get out of the arrangement.
As recently as December, she said that not making music was a way of saying “f*ck you” to her family for keeping them at the conservatory, but it seems she’s more open to the idea now that her fans have encouraged her have showered with love.
In a post on her Instagram account that she decided to take down last week, Britney said: “I think it seems strange to most now why I’m not even doing my music anymore. . . those are just the surface issues.
“People have no idea about the terrible things that have been done to me personally. . . and after what i’ve been through, i’m scared of people and the business.
“Stopping making my music is my way of saying ‘f*ck you’ in a sense when it’s actually only benefiting my family by ignoring my actual work.”
Several of her former employees have championed Britney over the past year, including Claude, who insisted she was a consummate professional working together.
He said: “What I remember most is that for someone who has been painted everywhere as chaos, tragic and sloppy, she was incredibly professional.
“Much like a professional dancer, when it comes to the art, she’s a machine. Everything around them is crazy.”
I have no doubt the work ethic is still there and the last few years have given her a lot to write about.
Miley turns sky blue
Potty-mouthed Miley Cyrus turned the air blue as she performed at the Lollapalooza Chile music festival over the weekend.
The singer donned a form-fitting blue PVC catsuit and couldn’t resist a series of lewd innuendoes.
Not only did she read out a fan tag staring at her ex, Nick Jonas, but she also proudly held up an adult message about her career-changing 2013 hit Wrecking Ball.
Before strutting onto the stage to her 2009 hit Party In The USA with the world’s most pointless purse, Miley’s intro video sent fans into a frenzy by repeatedly telling them she “needs attention.”
She may be attention seeking, but Miley is also one of the biggest stars on the planet right now.
Hopefully she’ll be back performing here in the UK in the near future.
It’s been too long
Who joins Ed to fight cancer?
TONIGHT the Teenage Cancer Trust kicks off their most impressive week of shows yet.
Taking over London’s Royal Albert Hall, the gigs aim to raise as much money as possible for one of the most worthwhile causes.
As a reward for their bravery, some of the youngsters who were being looked after by the Trust’s amazing staff were invited to the shows for a first class evening.
I have nothing but respect for the stars who sacrificed their time for these truly special gigs and can’t wait to go there themselves later this week.
Here is the lineup:
- Monday: Don Broco (full orchestra) plus Deaf Havana.
- Tuesday: An evening of comedy hosted by Joel Dommett.
- Wednesday: Yungblud plus Nova Twins and Daisy Brain.
- Thursday: Madness plus Paul Weller & Band (acoustic).
- Friday: The Who (acoustic) plus The Wild Things.
- Saturday: Liam Gallagher plus Kid Kapichi and Rats.
- Sunday: Ed Sheeran plus Dylan.
Rylan’s delicious bird
HE IS one of the most successful presenters in the country.
So it’s nice to know that Rylan Clark is just like the rest of us.
Enjoying a wild weekend with his Radio 2 buddies, he opted to quit an overpriced members’ club for a modest booze.
And the next morning he woke up snuggled under the covers. . . a leftover snack.
He tweeted: “I woke up with a chicken select stuck to my face. . . Cheers.”
I have to admit I’ve been there myself, so don’t worry Rylan, you’re in good company.
Demi goes from Disney to Drag
DEMI Lovato has made surprising collaborations with Clean Bandit and Olly Murs before, but the next Brit to work with the US star looks the least likely yet.
I can reveal that the former Disney Channel actress has recruited British drag act Bimini Bon-Boulash for a track, so things must be really desperate.
Bimini, who appeared in the UK version of RuPaul’s Drag Race last year, caught Demis’ attention after launching a solo career with the single God Save This Queen.
Although there haven’t been any problems with the charts, Demi’s team has gotten in touch and a song is on the way.
A source said: “Demi has been hard at work on a new album and it has a rockin’ sound that’s as far removed as you can get from songs like ‘Cool For The Summer’ and ‘Confident’.
“They both identify as non-binary and are big fans of each other, so when the offer came, Bimini jumped at the chance.
“Exact details are still being worked out, but the route should be published in the coming months.”
Despite not winning the second season of the BBC Three show, Bimini has landed a string of high-profile deals since she rose to fame on the show – writing a book, appearing in Vogue and appearing in music videos for Little Mix and Ava Max .
I don’t quite understand it myself, but everyone for themselves.
Liam’s new direction
HE may have taken over the pop world with One Direction, but Liam Payne still dreams of cracking Hollywood.
I can reveal that the singer will be flying to America this week to meet some of the world’s biggest movie stars ahead of the Oscars on Sunday.
As well as bagging tickets to some of the most exclusive parties ahead of the awards shows, Liam also has an incredible lunch with Kill Bill actress Uma Thurman.
Speaking to fans online, Liam admitted he’s hoping to land a role in a “comedy or an action movie” in the near future.
He auditioned for superstar director Steven Spielberg for West Side Story but didn’t get the part.
Hopefully he’ll have better luck making it in Tinseltown this time.
IF I ever get caught leaving the gym, I assure you I wouldn’t look half as good.
Bella Hadid appeared practically ready for the runway when she left for New York after a workout.
The supermodel paired blue joggers with a black bralette and showed off her slim frame.
She mixed up the look by wearing an unbuttoned white shirt and matching sunglasses.
Bella recently opened up to Vogue about going under the knife when she was just 14.
Regretting the procedure, she said: “I wish I had kept my ancestors’ nose. I think I would have grown into it.”
Bella shut down speculation that she’s had countless procedures throughout her career, adding, “I’ve never used fillers. Let’s just end this. I have no problem with it, but it’s not for me.
“Whoever thinks I got my eyes lifted or whatever it’s called – it’s face tape! The oldest trick in the book.”
