Bridgeton Star Ruby Barker has revealed she’s spending time in the hospital treating mental health issues.
The actress is best known for her role as Marina Thompson in both seasons of the Netflix romantic drama series.
On Thursday (May 26), she released a nearly six-minute video telling fans she was hospitalized to focus on her mental health recovery.
In her caption, she explained that mental health week was “every week” for her and that she’s been struggling ever since Bridgeton started 2020.
“I’m better. I’ve been feeling really bad for a long time,” the actor said to the camera.
“I just want to be honest with everyone – I’ve had issues. I’m in hospital at the moment, I’ll be discharged soon and hopefully I can get on with my life.”
Barker then stated that once released, she would be on hiatus before returning to work, and addressed a message to those watching who might have felt similarly.
She said: “I want to encourage others: If you are struggling, please do yourself a favor and take a break. Stop being so hard on yourself.
“It’s crazy here! And sometimes you just have to take a break and say, ‘I can’t do this now, I need support.’”
Later in the video, the actress shared that she didn’t really pay much attention to the issue before confronting her own mental health struggles. She explained that she was “enraged, frustrated, angry,” before referring to a family trauma that’s been passed down through the generations: “All this generational trauma, concentrated within me.”

Additionally, she assured her audience that going to the hospital was a positive move that has helped her reach a better place.
“I haven’t hit rock bottom yet; I’m at new heights,” she explained. “We really need to change the dialogue and think about our linguistics when we’re actually talking about mental health.”
Fans were quick to support Barker’s transparency with what she was experiencing, with many commenting praising her bravery and strength.
“You are such a beautiful soul!” replied one fan. “Thanks for being open to sharing. Your message helps so many in need to hear this.”
