Rock band The Neighborhood have booted their drummer Brandon Fried after he was hit with a groping allegation.
Maria Zardoya, the frontwoman of indie band The Marías, accused the 32-year-old drummer of unsolicited lewd behavior, saying it was “one of the most uncomfortable things” that ever happened to her.
“I was in a bar last night and was groped under the table by Brandon Fried, drummer for The Neighborhood. It was one of the most uncomfortable things I’ve ever experienced. I felt an invasion of my space, privacy and body,” Zardoya wrote on her Instagram story.
She then told the band that they “need a new drummer, this guy is a complete nutcase”.
Not long after their shocking post, the band announced Sunday night that Fried was no longer part of The Neighborhood.
“We are grateful to Maria for reaching out. We have zero tolerance for inappropriate behavior towards women,” the Sweater Weather hitmaker wrote.
“As a result of Brandon’s actions, he will no longer be a member of The Neighborhood.”
Fried took responsibility for his actions and apologized to the singer in a statement on Instagram.
“I feel so sorry for Mary. My actions were inexcusable and unbearable,” the 32-year-old wrote. “They don’t reflect who I am as a person, they clearly reflect who I’m becoming while under the influence.”
Fried said he “needs to address my alcohol and drug abuse issues,” before revealing he’s “seeking help” now.
“I want to apologize to women who have been the victims of behavior that has made them feel uncomfortable or hurt,” he continued. “I’m so sorry for The Neighborhood and our fans that we let them down.”
The Californian rock band formed in 2011 and consists of guitarists Jeremy Freedman and Zach Abels, bassist Mikey Margot and vocalist Jesse Rutherford.
Fried had joined the band in 2014.
The band have released four studio albums, their most recent release being Chip Chrome & the Mono-Tones in 2020.
Frontman Rutherford, 31, recently confirmed his romance with singer Billie Eilish, 20, after the pair made their red carpet debut at the 2022 LACMA Art + Film Gala.
