(Reuters) – Oil and gas group BP Plc on Tuesday said it had purchased US electric vehicle charging provider AMPLY Power for an undisclosed amount, stepping up efforts to cut emissions and focus on cleaner energy.

BP says it aims to double earnings from its global mobility and convenience businesses by 2030 and grow its global network of electric vehicle charging points more than six times to 70,000 in the same time period.

California-based AMPLY Power was founded in 2018 and serves fleets of truck operators, transit and school buses, vans and light vehicles.

Richard Bartlett, senior vice president, said: “BP is aiming to accelerate electrification in the fast-growing fleet segment, which is key to reducing emissions from the transportation sector – weak biggest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in the United States,” said Richard Bartlett, senior vice president of future mobility and solutions at BP.

Under the terms of the agreement, AMPLY Power will continue to operate independently as part of BP’s global business portfolio.

Last week, BP said it plans to set up a large-scale green hydrogen production plant in north-east England, built from wind, water and solar power to help the UK move away from fossil fuels. fossil.
